By the time the first school was established here in 1874, the area had already been settled by several pioneer families. Many of their names appear today on local roads and buildings. Residents donated time, materials and financial support for the school’s construction. Noting the flowering crabapple trees in bloom, Nancy Jane Broadwell suggested Crabapple as the school name. The Crossroads soon adopted it, too. Over time, the area developed commercially to include the Crabapple Baptist Church, a cotton gin, warehouse, and general store. In 2017, Milton City Hall was constructed here.
